Lensing-Murray engagement

Lori Elizabeth Lensing, daughter of Toney and Becky Lensing of Lake Providence, and Robert Cameron Murray, son of Donna Murray of Augusta, Georgia and Bob Murray of Chattanooga, Tennessee, announce their engagement.

Parish students given honors

Northwestern State University announces the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2024 semester. Cailen Wiltcher of Sondheimer was named to the President’s List.

Grants offered to nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply in the latest round of grants from Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative. NELPCO launched its OperationRoundUp program in January of 2016 with the purpose of having a positive impact on the communities within the seven parishes it serves.

Church holds youth event

The Saint John M.B. Church held its Annual Youth Explosion 2024, Sunday, May 26 at 3:00 pm. The theme selected was “Youth on the Move for Christ.” Scripture: “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.” Ecclesiastes 12:1 We believe that the youth are our future, and we should help and involve them in the cause of Christ just as adults. “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 Thanking God for His Grace and blessings. It allowed us to reach the youth which included severalchurchesboth near and far. The program included oratorical speaking, songs (choir and solos), praise dance, mime dancers, divine steppers, and much more. Youth are endowed with different and various gifts from the Lord, and we believe that they should have the opportunity to “let their light shine before men.”

911 director awarded for dedication

Debra Hopkins, director for East Carroll Parish 911, received the Breeden-Davis Dedication award earlier this month at the annual Louisiana Emergency Preparedness conference in Lake Charles. The award is given to people who work towards the safety and preparedness of their community.

School board celebrates students of the year

The East Carroll Parish School Board honored top students at all three public schools at its regular board meeting last week. From General Trass High School, Cadence Grey was named Student of the Year and Terry Douglas was named Runner-Up.
