Local woman donates organs after stroke

On Thursday, May 30, my sweet friend, Peggy Boyte ,suffered a catastrophic hemorrhagic stroke. There was nothing modern medicine could do to save her. She was placed on life support to give her family time to get there. To give them time to say goodbye. But this is not where Peggy’s story ended. As medical teams discussed her condition, the severity of the stroke and the certainty of her passing, one question started a series of events that changed everything, “Would you consider donating Peggy’s organs?” Her husband, John, had one answer – yes. Peggy’s brother Gary had received a kidney years ago which added years to his life. John and Peggy have dear friends whose brother is on a waiting list for a kidney transplant. And as John, their son, Todd, and his wife, Ashley, met with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, they knew this decision was a tribute to Peggy’s life. “Peggy was always a sweet person, always thinking about someone else,” recalls John. “I couldn’t think of a better way for Peggy to live on.”

Board President Wanda Jackson said that the projects were going to be rebid. “It’s going to be bid in an a la carte process,” Jackson said. “It will be our choice which projects we choose to do first.”

An almost-brand new 2024 Freightliner

An almost-brand new 2024 Freightliner was totaled last Friday when the driver lost control and hit a ditch at Hollybrook. The driver was hauling flat pieces of construction timber and was exiting off of Hollybrook Road. According to Deputy Greg Campbell who worked the accident, a car had stopped in front of the 18-wheeler and the driver swerved into the ditch to keep from rear ending the car that was turning onto Highway 65 South. Cleanup took longer than usual when the trailer holding debris loaded by inmates from Bayou Detention Center out of Tallulah overturned and they had to begin the process all over.
