Season ends for Panthers, Williams impresses

The General Trass Panther Football team ran into a foe last Friday night that was too much to handle despite their season’s growth. The Panthers went down in defeat at the hands of the fourth seed Haynesville squad to the score of 48-22.

The 20th seed Panthers were able to advance to the second round of the playoffs by upsetting 13th seed Arcadia in the first round.

Haynesville led from start to finish by jumping out to a 22-0 lead and never looking back. The Panthers finished the season 6-6 overall, with a 3-3 district record. Kameron Williams was a powerhouse for the Panthers this season. He finished off his spectacular career at General Trass High School with staggering numbers. He averaged 137 yards per game on the ground and 16 touchdowns for the Panthers offense, while also leading the team on defense with 113 tackles and 12 sacks.

Williams has clearly made a strong case for MVP consideration in the district.

Coach Toriano Wells said the team gave it their all this season and he saw a very different team at the end of the season than the one that started the season.

He says the young team grew up as the season went along. “We were getting beat on defense a lot at first, but we had to grow up and learn to execute on every play in order to change things. Kam, Dylan Baker, Stephon Everfield, Milton Ross gave us their all throughout the season as they have throughout their entire time being here, and we thank them for their contributions and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors,” said Wells.

The coach says that the team will be back next season with a strong offseason commitment to conditioning and training, and with a little more experience.
